Malvern Collegiate Institute Alumni Association

Greetings to you all. I hope you are having a good summer. We are sending this issue of the Musings out early this year because we want to remind all the 50s and 60s Malvernites about the upcoming Reunion, Rock and Roll Meets Peace and Love, which will be held at the Balmy Beach Club at the foot of Beech Ave. on September 27 from 12 noon to 5.00 p.m.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

At our Annual General Meeting held at the Balmy Beach Club on November 4, 2007, we had a modest attendance (under 20) but a lot of enthusiasm. We thanked Randy Deffett and outgoing members for their great efforts to lay the foundation for the Malvern Red and Black Society and Randy’s leadership since 2004.

FAREWELL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
As of November, 2007 I will not seek a third term as President of the Malvern Red & Black Society. I will be leaving the Society’s executive. From our founding days in October 2003 through two terms as President, I put my passion and dedication into making this Society a success.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

The future of your Malvern Red and Black Society is bright. We are excited to begin planning activities for 2007 and beyond. Before we begin, there is one critical question for us to have an answer to. As a member of the Malvern Red and Black Society, kindly tell us: What do you think about the Society?

AGM Summary Report – November, 2006 (PDF)

The leaves are beginning to change colour and a new school year has begun. The summer was fun and now your MRBS is excited to start a new year of activity. We are planning several projects and events for you. Read about these upcoming events in this Musings issue and plan to join us! We hope you enjoy the stories that fellow Malvernites have shared with all of us.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Membership has its rewards. Thanks to the large size of our Society, we are able to make available to you the benefits of a group insurance program. We have entered into a home and auto insurance sponsorship agreement with Johnson Incorporated. Established in 1880, this Canadian insurer is well-known for providing insurance products for preferred associations like ours. You can find out more about Johnson Inc. at www.johnson.ca.

Welcome to the second edition of our Musings newsletter. With Remembrance Day just around the corner, we have dedicated this issue to our more senior alumni who while being some of our most vocal and enthusiastic members, lived through a difficult period in Malvern’s history, and indeed the world’s history. We would like to give a little glimpse into what life at Malvern was like in the early days and honour the memory of those students who sacrificed so much to give us the freedoms and rights that we enjoy today.
