The Malvern Science club is hosting their first Releafing Day at Malvern Collegiate on Saturday, May 30<\/strong> in front of the cenotaph from 10am-4pm. <\/strong>They will be selling five different species of trees, at very reasonable prices, to raise funds for next year’s projects.\u00a0
\n<\/strong><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\"Releaf<\/a>The students will be hosting alumni, parents and all community members wishing to attend who have an interest in climate change and what sequestering of carbon dioxide can do to mitigate this world-wide problem of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The students will talk about their project involving the study of the growth of Norway Spruce trees that they have nurtured since December of last year, and their current investigation of the effect of an enhanced CO2<\/sub> environment on tree growth.<\/p>\n

The trees being offered for sale are the Tulip Tree, Red Maple, Mountain Ash, Red Oak and Kentucky Coffee Trees. Each tree sapling is about 18″ high and sells for $10, well below nursery prices. These trees have all been approved by the TDSB and the City of Toronto as suitable for the urban forest. We will have 75 on hand and will take orders for delivery if we run out.<\/p>\n

This day will also include a small, select group of craft vendors, an extensive bake table and a refreshment stand.<\/p>\n

Visitors will also have an opportunity to attend the Malvern drama’s presentation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. A matinee performance at 2pm and an evening performance at 7pm will be available at a $7 cost per ticket.<\/p>\n

Our special guest working with the students this year is Rod Tennyson, a Malvern alumnus\u00a0and accomplished\u00a0scientist.<\/p>\n
