  1. Minutes of December 2014 meeting

Acceptance of the Minutes of the December 14 meeting moved by Adele, seconded by Vandra. Accepted.

  1. Matters arising from the Minutes

All matters arising from the Minutes were covered elsewhere on the agenda.

  1. Announcements

Vandra reported that Malvern’s student population numbers were very good, and, as a result, the school was not on a TDSB list for possible closure.

  1. President’s Report – Vandra Masemann (Includes Malvern Vintage Wear Report)

Vandra reported that she and Volker had visited Becklingen War Cemetery on their trip to Germany and had laid roses on the graves to two Malvernites buried there, Peter Burne and David Fenton.

  1. Vice-President’s and Spring Musings Report – Adele Ashby

Adele noted that if the plan was to publish an issue in March, there was very little time to do so. The date was moved to the beginning of April so that issues could be brought to the April meeting for distribution to executive members. The suggestion was made that the front page include a call for volunteers to serve on the executive and for donations since most members of the executive have served at least a decade and operating funds are very low. Another suggestion was that we include a banner to that effect to be inserted in the fold. An article by Joyce Timpson is in process; Russ Little’s commencement speech is ready, and Bob will contribute a piece on William Glenesk, who died recently. Donna has agreed to print the return address on the envelopes. Dianne will shortly have updated mailing lists ready.

  1. Communications Reports – Sonya Munro, Bob Watson, Vandra Masemann

Snail mail — Sonya Munro

In Sonya’s absence, Vandra reported that only one piece of mail had been received, a cheque.

Phone and email — Bob Watson

Bob reported that there had been 2 calls on the hotline, 8 emails on the Red & Black, 7 web registrations, 1 about express consent, and none for either the 40s or the 60s.

Database — Dianne Chadwick

Dianne reported that her revision had begun.

  1. Treasurer’s Report – Bob Watson

Bob reported that he had received 1 returned NSF cheque and that there is 1 uncashed student award cheque. He will try to get in touch with the student. Bob moved acceptance of his report, seconded by Volker. Accepted.

There followed an extended discussion about what to do about the fact that technically we are in a minus position for operating funds, especially given the current allocations of funds for special purposes. Bob will report at the next meeting at which a decision can be made about moving funds if needed.

  1. M.C.I. War Memorial Committee – Vandra Masemann

Vandra reported that Greg McKinnon of the TDSB has not reported back on his investigation of what it is that the federal government does to secure its many memorials.

  1. Big Book Project Report –David Fuller

Vandra reported for David in his absence. The Canadian Conservation Institute is behind and has not yet responded to our request for the conservation of the Big Book.

  1. Sequester Project Report – Rod Tennyson in absentia

In Rod’s absence, Adele reported that the environment students have been caring for their take-home baby trees, which are part of an experiment to measure C02 absorption. Rod has the control group. Plans for the Releaf Day are proceeding.

  1. Other business

There was no other business.

  1. Motion to adjourn

Moved by Adele, seconded by Volker.
