  1. Matters arising from the Minutes

All matters arising from the Minutes were dealt with later in the agenda.

  1. Announcement

As classes had just begun, there were not announcements.

  1. President’s Report – Vandra Masemann

Vandra reported that the OMF funding appeal letter was included in the fall Musings and included our requests for funding, such as for the band uniform project.  The refurbishment of the uniforms has been a huge success.  She also noted that the 150th anniversary of Confederation to be celebrated in 2017, included plans at Malvern to plant a red maple leaf tree with an accompanying plaque.

  1. Vice President’s Report, Fall Musings – Adele Ashby

Adele reported that the fall newsletter was ready for distribution.

  1. Communications Reports

Mail – Vandra Masemann

Vandra reported that there had been no mail received over the summer.

Phone, email – Bob Watson

Bob reported 1 phone call, no 40s or 60s email, and 2 web registrations via red & black.

Database – Dianne Chadwick

Dianne reported that we now have 497 snail mail and 800 email records.

Website, Facebook – David Fuller

David reported that the members list on the website had been updated.

 7. Treasurer’s Report – Bob Watson

Bob reported that there were not sufficient funds to cover our expenses, such as those for the fall newsletter.  It was agreed to redeem our GIC to cover them.

  1. AGM and Future Plans

The 2016 AGM will be held at the school on Saturday 5 November.

Vandra introduced a document from alumnus John Leahey who has produced a proposal to raise funds to repair and secure the cenotaph. It was noted that this would be an excellent 150th anniversary project. Vandra estimates that the cost would be approximately $20,000.  While everyone present supports the proposal in principle, it was decided that all communications about the project would have to be vetted by the existing cenotaph committee.  Vandra will invite the OMF to a meeting to jointly discuss the proposal.

Rod circulated a proposal to explore the possibility and the ramifications of merging the MRBS and the OMF as a response to our lack of ability to recruit new members to the MRBS executive and troubling financial situation.  His proposal laid out the benefits to both groups, and he has committed to inviting the OMF President, Lorie McCauley, to a meeting to explore the possibility.  Approval to proceed was moved by David, seconded by Volker, and passed unanimously.

  1. Any Other Business

There was no other business.

  1. Motion to adjourn

Moved by Adele, seconded by Rod.
