- Minutes of February 2015 meeting
Acceptance of the February 2015 minutes moved by Adele, seconded by Evan. Accepted.
- Matters arising from the Minutes
All matters arising from the Minutes were covered elsewhere on the agenda.
- Announcements
The MRBS donated the following to the upcoming Boardwalk Ball: a Malvern rugby shirt and cap and a copy of Malvern at 110. The Home & School is organizing a Spring Fling Craft and Foodie Fair to be held in the school yard on 25 April.
- President’s Report – Vandra Masemann
Vandra reported that she and Rod had attended the 31 March OMF meeting and that it is still having difficulty getting the signing power transferred to the acting treasurer. As a result, the monies donated to the MRBS from September to March through the OMF have not yet been paid out. Like the MRBS, the OMF needs volunteers, and a request for them was added to the MRBS request. In addition, a specific request for donations for kilts for the music program was added to the paper Musings. A link with a letter will be added to the email version. Vandra also noted that our Facebook account has 421 members.
- Vice President’s and Spring 2015 Musings Report – Adele Ashby
Adele noted that the snail-mail version of the Musings was ready to go out and that the email version would appear shortly.
- Communications Reports
Mail – Vandra Masemann
Vandra reported that there had not been any snail mail for 2 months.
Phone & email – Bob Watson
Bob noted that there had been no 40s or 60s emails or phone calls since the February meeting. The Red & Black account had received 14 emails, 9 web registrations, 5 war photos for the Archives, and 1 from Len Nanjad, which would be discussed later in the meeting.
Database – Dianne Chadwick
Dianne noted that the database had been cleaned up for the Musings mailing and that we now have 568 names and addresses for the snail-mail version.
- Treasurer’s Report – Bob Watson
Bob reported that the estimated costs for the Musings would be $1200 an issue, seriously depleting our meager funds. Dianne suggested that we consider accepting a page of advertising from alumni/ae on our website, Facebook pages, and newsletters. We might be able to cover our newsletter costs. She will investigate further.
- Sequester Project Report – Rod Tennyson
Rod reported that ReLeaf Day is scheduled for 30 May, 10 a.m.-4 p.m in the cafeteria or outside, depending on the weather. He circulated a list of action items and the invitation to be enclosed with the Musings and posted on Facebook and the website. There will be 50 small trees available for sale, demonstrations by the Eco Club students, a baking sale, and more. It is hoped that the proceeds will fund next year’s projects for the Eco Club, which had received start-up funds from MRBS to get the Sequester Project off the ground.
- Ways to support Malvern – Len Nanjad
Len suggested in his email that we put donation instructions more visibly on our website home page. In addition, he suggested the adding of audio to our website as a means of catching attention and perhaps increasing donations directed to the needs of the music program. These can and will be done. He also suggested greater involvement with students with examples, all of which are currently being done. Further suggestions that came from the discussion included asking Russ Little, whose inspiring speech at last November’s Commencement was so well received, if he might be interested in a musical evening with his combo at Malvern as a fund-raiser. Evan volunteered to write up a short piece about the first band uniforms for the Musings.
Vandra will write up a draft for approval of the text to be posted on the website under Ways to Support Malvern.
